Sono felice di condividere l'immagine che ho realizzato per la seconda edizione dell'UnArchive Festival. Quest'anno il tema era “Cinema Che Brucia”. Quando Alina Marazzi, Marco Bertozzi e Luca Ricciardi mi hanno chiesto di sviluppare un’immagine su questo argomento, sono stato subito colpito dalle molteplici stratificazioni di significato che il titolo suggeriva.
La mia mente è tornata immediatamente a dei provini che avevo realizzato qualche anno fa in Sicilia, durante alcune visite sull'Etna e sullo Stromboli. In quell’occasione, avevo creato dei collage animati combinando immagini d’archivio della Library of Congress con video di eruzioni vulcaniche. Quelle immagini, ispirate direttamente dal contesto naturale, mi sono tornate in mente quando i direttori artistici mi hanno proposto questo progetto. Ho subito visto un legame tra quei lavori e il tema attuale. Questo è il risultato che ho sviluppato, e desidero ringraziare il festival per la fiducia e la possibilità di collaborare su progetti così liberi e stimolanti.
am very happy to share the image I created for the second edition of the UnArchive Festival. This year, the theme was "Cinema That Burns". When Alina Marazzi, Marco Bertozzi, and Luca Ricciardi asked me to develop an image inspired by this theme, I was immediately struck by the many layers of meaning suggested by the title.
My mind instantly went back to some tests I had done a few years ago in Sicily, during visits to Mount Etna and the Stromboli volcano. On that occasion, I created animated collages combining archival images from the Library of Congress with footage of volcanic eruptions. Those images, inspired by the surrounding nature, came back to me as soon as the artistic directors proposed this project. I immediately saw a connection between those works and the current theme. This is the result of that creative journey, and I would like to thank the festival for the trust and the opportunity to collaborate on such free and inspiring projects.
Oltre a realizzare l’immagine per il festival, ho avuto il piacere di presentare dal vivo una performance audiovisiva insieme al maestro e artista Alessandro D’Alessandro, intitolata Visionaria. Durante l’evento, Alessandro ha suonato il suo repertorio unico, un affascinante incontro tra musica popolare e ricerca sperimentale. Ha utilizzato il suo organetto e un sistema personale di effetti sonori, creando un'atmosfera sonora coinvolgente. Ho accompagnato la sua esibizione con proiezioni visive, in un’esibizione che è stata un momento di grande sinergia creativa.
In addition to creating the image for the festival, I had the pleasure of presenting a live audiovisual performance with the artist and maestro Alessandro D'Alessandro, titled Visionaria. During the event, Alessandro performed his unique repertoire, a captivating fusion of folk music and experimental research. Using his accordion and a personal system of sound effects, he created an engaging sonic atmosphere. I accompanied his performance with visual projections, in what turned out to be a moment of great creative synergy.
